A public graveside service was held on June 8, 2025, at Wyly Cemetery in Waverly, TN for William Ellis Webb II (Bill) who died on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN. A Celebration of Life is scheduled on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Waverly United Methodist Church, Waverly, TN with visitation at the church beginning at 12:00 p.m. Officiating at the services was WCN Pastor Daron Brown. Humphreys County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Bill was born on October 28, 1945, in Nashville, TN, the first son of W. Ellis and LaDelle Richardson Webb of Waverly, TN. Bill grew up living on Main Street where he rode his bicycle to Waverly Elementary and Waverly Jr. High School. An excellent athlete, Bill loved playing baseball and basketball. He was a member of the WCHS Class of 1963 where he was voted “Most Athletic.”
Bill graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1968 after leaving APSU in 1967 to join the United States Army. After completing basic training and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Bill later joined the Tennessee National Guard where he served for 12 years.
In December Bill met Kathryn Kittrell (Kay) Harlan from Mt. Pleasant, TN who would graduate in May from APSU and planned to become an English teacher. The two were married on April 26, 1969 then spent the summer at East Tennessee State University where Bill completed a graduate program in Public Health Administration. In the fall they moved to Franklin, TN, where Bill was employed as an environmentalist with the Williamson County Department of Public Health, and Kay began teaching 12th grade English at Franklin High School. Their daughter Jessica Jill was born on May 3, 1973. In 1976 Bill left his career in public health, and the family re-located to Waverly where Bill opened Webb Insurance Agency with his brother Larry. In 1995 Webb Insurance Agency merged with Waverly Insurance and became Porch-Stribling-Webb Insurance Agency. Bill served as vice-president and retired in 2006 with thirty years as an independent insurance agent.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years Kay, their daughter Jessica Jill Parker and beloved grandsons Jackson Guthrie and Gant Parker of Dickson, TN; brother Larry (Glenda) Webb of Waverly, and nephews Dr. Kyle and Elvia Webb and their children Isabella, and Adriana Webb of Nolensville, TN, and Heath Webb and Naly Fong of Bellevue, TN.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters-in-law MC Harlan McClain of Columbia, TN and Anne Harlan McKinney of Murfreesboro TN; brother-in-law Forrest Gordon McClain of Mt. Joy, TN; cousins, Ernestine Parker Thomas of Murfreesboro, TN; Ray Hand of Southgate, MI, and Donnie Richardson of Nashville, TN.
Family members include Bill, Amber, Brooke, Nicholas, and Will McClain, Linden, TN; Don and Zach McKinney, Murfreesboro, TN; Dr. Matt, Dr. Joyce, and Amelia McKinney, Durham, NC; Dan, Harryette, Dana, Adam, Alex, Mason, and Emerson Huffstutter, Nashville, TN; the Honorable Kevin and Kara Sharp and their children Anne-Rives, Thomas, McClain, and Charles, Belle Meade, TN; Dr. Laura (Phil) Harpel, Clarksville, TN; Bobbie Lynn Antosh and family of Southgate, MI; Angie (Larry) Stephens and family of Nashville, TN, and Mike and (Stacie) Parker and family of Hot Springs, AR.
Bill was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, the TN Society of Registered Professional Environmentalists, the Insurors of TN, former president of the Humphreys County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Humphreys County Soil Conservation Tour Group, the Williamson County Rotary Club, the Franklin Jaycees, APSU Governors’ Club, APSU Alumni Association, the Waverly Country Club, and the Waverly Elks Lodge.
Bill will be remembered for his friendly, outgoing personality, who never met a stranger and who loved his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Waverly United Methodist Church or the Waverly Church of the Nazarene.
