Green Burial Services
We believe in offering environmentally respectful alternatives to traditional services. Our Green Burial Services give families an opportunity to honor their loved ones in a way that supports natural ecological processes, with simpler, earth-friendly practices that reduce environmental impact.
Visitation or Gathering
Even in green burial, many families find comfort in hosting a time of gathering to share memories, offer condolences, and celebrate a loved one’s life.
A visitation may be held at our funeral home, a place of worship, or even outdoors in a natural setting. We help families include personal elements such as photo displays, keepsakes, and music that reflect the individual’s story and values.
For those choosing to have the body present, eco-embalming is available upon request. We use an environmentally responsible, formaldehyde-free embalming solution that provides temporary preservation while aligning with the principles of natural burial.
Memorial or Ceremony
You may choose to hold a formal ceremony before interment (or instead of one). Whether in a chapel, under a tree, or at a cemetery’s natural burial grounds, this service can be made meaningful through:
- Readings, poetry, or scripture
- Music or instrumental performance
- Open sharing of memories
- Eulogies or guided reflections
- Incorporating natural elements (flowers, biodegradable tokens, planting a tree)
If no clergy is selected, we can arrange a life celebrant or facilitator experienced in green burial services to lead the ceremony.
Interment / Graveside Service
The graveside service (or “committal”) may be held immediately following the ceremony or privately with close family.
Key features of green interment include:
- Burial in a biodegradable casket or natural shroud
- No concrete vaults or non-biodegradable materials
- Minimal ground disturbance, with natural restoration following burial
- Optional eco-embalming only using environmentally safe fluids
- Families may participate by placing flowers, native plantings, or biodegradable mementos at the gravesite
Markers are typically simple and natural—crafted from local stone, wood, or bronze, blending harmoniously into the landscape.
