Green Burial: What It Is and Why Families Choose It

“Simple, natural, meaningful. Learn why more families are turning to green burial as a way to honor life and protect the earth.”

More families are asking us about green burial, and for good reason. Green burial is a simple, natural way of laying a loved one to rest, without embalming fluids, vaults, or heavy metal caskets. Instead, biodegradable caskets or shrouds are used, allowing the body to return to the earth gently.

Families choose green burial for many reasons:

  • Environmental care: It minimizes impact on the earth.
  • Simplicity: It reflects a life lived close to nature.
  • Cost: Often, it’s more affordable than traditional burial.

At Spann Funeral Home, we partner with Larkspur Conservation, giving families the option to rest in a preserved, natural setting. For many, this feels like a return to simplicity — and a way of giving back to the earth at life’s end.  However, these are other cemetery options available outside of Larkspur.

Green burial isn’t for everyone, but it’s an important option that reflects changing values and deeper connections to the natural world.
