Richard Wayne Huelsenbeck, age 64, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Born on August 7, 1961, in Iowa City, Iowa, Richard was the son of the late Arthur and Jean Huelsenbeck. A proud patriot, he honorably served his country in the United States Army for three years before beginning a career as a field service engineer. Through his work and throughout his life, Richard became known as a dependable, hardworking man who could always be counted on to build, repair, or solve whatever challenge came his way.
Above all else, Richard was a devoted Christian, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He often said that his greatest accomplishment in life was his children, and there was nothing he cherished more than his family. Whether lending a helping hand, tackling a project, or simply offering encouragement, Richard lived with a servant's heart. He was a man of unwavering faith, a man of his word, and someone who never hesitated to go out of his way to help others. He did so with a genuine smile and never expected anything in return. His kindness, generosity, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard is survived by his sons, Charles Huelsenbeck and Michael Huelsenbeck; his daughter, Kirsten Cassity; his granddaughter, Cora Huelsenbeck; his brother, Daniel Todd Huelsenbeck and his wife, Blanca Huelsenbeck; his sisters, Vickie MacMillan and Tammy Welch; and by Michael and Stephanie Gunn, with whom Michael held a special place in Richard's life as the father he knew and loved. He is also survived by the Gunn family, who embraced Richard as one of their own: his "brother," Scott Gunn and his wife, Chandra Gunn, and their daughter, Kali Gunn; and his "sister," Jennifer Gunn and her husband, Charles Brock, along with their children, Michael Gunn-Brock and Grace Gunn-Brock.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frederick and Donnie Huelsenbeck; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Lillian Rounds; his brother, Arthur Allen Huelsenbeck; and his sister, Joyann Marie Gunn.
Richard's legacy of faith, integrity, compassion, and unconditional love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his example of selflessness, hard work, and unwavering devotion will never be forgotten.
