Oneida “Nenee” Leech, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on December 5, 1936, Oneida lived a life defined by simplicity, warmth, and quiet joy. She found her greatest happiness in the everyday moments—family get-togethers, especially Thanksgiving, where her famous carrot cake was always the most requested dessert, and the comfort of a quiet evening watching the sun set below the horizon.
Oneida attended and graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, a milestone she was deeply proud of. She went on to dedicate over 30 years to a meaningful career in nursing, serving others with skill, compassion, and quiet strength. Her calling to care for others extended beyond the hospital walls and into every part of her life.
A lover of life’s small pleasures, Oneida enjoyed traveling, growing flowers in her yard, and savoring a good vanilla cone dipped in chocolate. She could often be found watching birds outside her sunroom. Her faithful cat, Bama, was never far from her side and brought her daily comfort and companionship.
Though she was a woman of few demands, Oneida gave abundantly in love, kindness, and steady presence. She had a special way of making those around her feel at home and cared for, and her legacy will live on in the traditions, recipes, and memories she created with her family.
Oneida will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered for her grace, her grounded spirit, and the gentle beauty she brought to the lives of those who knew her.
