Mr. Maxie Wayne Ellison, age 82

Of Auburn, AL, formerly of New Johnsonville, TN, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Bethany House in Auburn, AL. He was born March 18, 1941, in Humphreys County, TN.

Maxie was a retired Navy Veteran who had served his country with great honor during the Vietnam War. He epitomized bravery and selflessness as he faced the challenges that came with military service. Maxie's dedication to his duty and unwavering commitment to protecting his nation's ideals earned him the respect and admiration of his comrades and fellow citizens alike.

Maxie pursued various hobbies and interests that brought immense delight into his life. Few things brought him more satisfaction than nurturing the earth through gardening. With careful dedication, he grew bountiful produce, creating a lush sanctuary that was both serene and captivating. Maxie's green thumb had indeed left a colorful imprint on this world. Amongst the tranquility of nature, Maxie also found solace in the peacefulness of fishing. Casting his line into calm waters allowed him to unwind from the demands of everyday life. With each catch, he felt a sense of triumph and fulfillment that only fellow anglers can truly understand.

Aside from these outdoor pursuits, Maxie reveled in simpler pleasures such as watching NASCAR races and Western movies. The roar of engines on race day or the dramatic tales of the wild west transported him to another realm, where he could experience a different kind of thrill without ever leaving the comfort of his living room.

Maxie's passion for college football was another facet of his life that brought him immense joy. As a devoted supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved team.

After the passing of his wife, Dale, Maxie moved to Alabama to live with his son, Phillip, and his family. There he got to spend countless hours playing with his granddaughter and best friend, Sloane. He also took on the role of “dog dad” to Bourbon, Bentley, and Bobby.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 5:00pm Sunday, February 18th and from 11:00am until service time Monday, February 19th at Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Maxie will be conducted at 1:00pm Monday, February 19, 2024, in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Eddings officiating.
