Mr. Douglas Guthrie Bradbury Jr., age 95, of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Born on September 3, 1930, to Douglas Guthrie Bradbury Sr. and Eva Dunn Bradbury in Adams, Tennessee, Doug shared a remarkable 73 years of marriage with the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Bradbury. They met through friends at Austin Peay State University at a football game that Peggy miraculously had an extra ticket to. Together they built a family that was the center of his world and his greatest source of pride and joy.
Doug was a cattle and tobacco farmer for his entire life. Farming was more than an occupation—it was a way of life that reflected his strength, dedication, and deep connection to the land. Through his example, he taught his family the values of hard work, fairness, perseverance, and integrity.
When he wasn’t working, Doug enjoyed simple pleasures and cherished traditions. Many afternoons were spent playing Rook at the Charlotte Drug Store, while evenings often found him gathered around the table enjoying card games with family. He loved traveling to Gatlinburg, hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and spending time in The Village, where stops at The Donut Friar and Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen were always part of the adventure.
Doug was also known for his fondness for sweets. His daily food groups seemed to begin and end with pies, cakes, and cookies, a fact that brought smiles to everyone who knew him.
Above all else, Doug loved his family. He treasured every gathering, every story shared around the table, and every moment spent with those he loved. His steady presence, quiet wisdom, and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed but forever remembered. The lessons he leaves behind are simple and lasting: be strong, be fair, work hard, and love your family well.
