D. L. “Roy” Cunningham, 89, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025. A man defined by steady hands, strong work ethic, and quiet pride in what he built, Roy lived a life rooted in faith, family, and the land he loved.
Born on December 2, 1936, Roy spent his life working with purpose. Alongside his brother Billy, he operated Cunningham Brothers Construction, where his craftsmanship, integrity, and determination shaped homes, barns, and memories across the community. When he wasn’t on a job site, Roy could be found tending to the farm he cherished—raising cattle, and pigs, working tobacco fields, and caring for the land in the way only a lifetime farmer could.
Roy was at his happiest in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and the simple joy of being surrounded by nature. Whether sitting quietly in the woods, in a deer stand, or casting a line on the water, those moments brought him peace and fulfillment.
He will be remembered as a hardworking, honest man—someone who earned respect by living it, not speaking it. His legacy lives on in the places he built, the fields he worked, and the family and friends who were shaped by his example.
Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
