Charles “Big Charlie” Edward Blunt Sr 10/31/1939 - 10/31/2025

Charles was born in Tishomingo, Mississippi on October 31,1939. Growing up he worked on his family’s farm raising and harvesting cotton. He was an outstanding student and athlete, excelling in mathematics and all sports. Moving to Waverly, Tennessee, in the early 1960s he began his career in boot manufacturing at Acme Boot, becoming Plant Manager. After his time at Acme, he began making boots independently, owning and operating factories in both Waverly and Camden, Tennessee. In the early 1990s he purchased a dry-cleaning operation in Waverly, expanding to a second location, Classic Cleaners, in 2003 in Dickson, Tennessee. He enjoyed the challenge and freedom of working for himself. An early riser who enjoyed going to work and continued working just up until his passing. While residing in Waverly until 2008 he enjoyed farming, following his children playing high school sports, lunch every day with buddies, Friday night gatherings, and playing golf at Waverly Country Club. Moving to Dickson in 2008 he enjoyed traveling with friends, gardening, being with his grandkids, and playing golf at GreyStone Golf Club.

He liked reading the newspaper, following high school sports and current events. He enjoyed a cold beer, but only after 5pm, non-negotiable. He loved watching and worrying about the weather, but mostly just worrying about it. He really loved watching Westerns, although at a volume that most people really didn’t love. Golf, dinner parties, hosting friends, grilling, college football, traveling, casino trips… he was always up for something fun and ready for a good time. Big Charlie loved to laugh and make people smile. Never without a new story or joke, he was happiest seeing a smile on the faces of whoever he met. His wit, storytelling, and humor were incredible and brought so much joy to those around him. Big Charlie excelled at being effortlessly kind and friendly. He had an easy way of making you feel good. Simply, if he knew you, he loved you and he would do anything for you. Soft-hearted and compassionate, he held a special place for those hurting or downtrodden. He gave and understood the blessing of giving. He believed to give freely for the need, not the reason.

A long and full life blessed him with so many wonderful friendships that he cherished. He was a Christian and looked forward to a heavenly reunion with those loved ones who have gone on before. His family is so grateful and overwhelmed knowing how much Big Charlie was deeply loved and cared for by so many people, in so many places, spanning more than eight decades of life. Big Charlie, Dad, Grandad, a true blessing to all. He will be terribly missed and wonderfully remembered forever.

For all who wish to attend, a come & go celebration gathering for Big Charlie will be held at the home of Charlie & Brittany Blunt, 105 Inverness Drive, Burns Tn, 37029 on Saturday November 15th from 12-3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate in Big Charlie’s honor supporting a local kid’s sports organization of your choosing.
